Fresh Zone Contest: the Łuhuu! Group: Goleń Katarzyna, Marusińska Karina, Rzeźniak Agnieszka
Graduates of the Academy of Fine Art in Wrocław. The group was formed in 2005, and works in performance, using various media and maintaining a characteristic quality of girliness. It places a strong emphasis on interaction and contact with incidental viewers in public spaces. The group works mainly in the field of gender, problems of identity and the broadly understood concept of communication and situations that take place in the threshold between the public and the private, often using strong visual messages. |

This project was in two parts. In the first part, a set of conversations was held with the people of Podgórze. This was a dialogue about the neighbourhood in which they live: what it lacks and what the residents do not like about it, but also what they do enjoy and what differentiates it from the other districts of the city. The individual statements and opinions of the residents, suggestions and complaints against the city authorities and between the residents themselves – all of this was printed on the back of receipts from cash registers of the local shops.

The authors were striving through this happening to activate the local community, provoking it to reflect on the place where they live, and perhaps to a broader discussion about it. For the residents, this was also an opportunity to confront their own feelings with those of their neighbours, and in this way it was an exchange of opinions. The message format, the cash register receipt, allowed it to reach a large number of people, permitting them to find the content in their own homes, even much later. As recorded information, the receipt lasts as long as it is carried in the wallet or pocket. The dialogue that results, and reflection on the neighbourhood, will remain in the consciousness of the residents for much longer.
