Fresh Zone Contest: Kostka Rozalia



Student of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Socrates/Erasmus scholar at the Ecole Superieure des Arts Applique et des Metirs d’arts Olivier de Serres in Paris (ESAAMA). Winner of many competitions including the contest for the design for the urban architecture design for the roundabout in Grodzisk Mazowiecki. She took part in the Przemiany [Transformations] Festival in Warsaw in 2009. She frequently alludes to the relationship between man and his surroundings. Urban space like the natural environment is an element that influences her works. Her inspirations are frequently absurd associations, unconventional behaviour and provocations.
Non-Krakow

The basis of this project was the creation of a zone in the city centre which belongs to no one. In the case of Krakow, the Old Town is the symbol of the city and the most identifiable element of it. By depriving the city of its most attractive urbanistic and architectural component the project was intended to draw the attention of passers-bys to the importance of its oldest part. The project was an attempt to search for the identity of the city.
