Tie Break

The starting point of the Tie-break project was a game in which the spectator cannot participated. The game took place outside of their reach, but still remainded aggressively visible. No one knew who the players were and what they played for. The spectator watched a tennis ball bouncing in a uniform automatic rhythm between two points. The game left no room for mistakes, while the bounce always had a follow-up and was always equally precise. The match went on above the crowd following their everyday rhythm.

Opinions of the Jury members:

This apparently innocent game manifests itself as a representation of the clash for unknown stake; the clash is only half visible, and thus becomes more disturbing. In time it becomes clear that the game watched by the spectator takes place at a site where ordinary everyday life does not have access. Paradoxically, its relation to everyday life cannot be questioned. It is covered by the question: what happens when the game ends? (Michał Bieniek)

Very light brilliant joke. Discreet intervention. (Cecylia Malik)

The introduction of the phantom sport to the historical and fetish-filled space of the Cloth Hall renders a very surreal effect and disturbs the tourist perception of architecture. (Aleksandra Wasilkowska)

In a carefully selected location, this simple interference has a chance to effectively break the rhythm and destroy the feeling of comfort related to the predictability of certain phenomena and situations. (Agnieszka Obszańska)
