WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE

Tomaszuk Julian

Was born in 1973 in Krakow. Between 1994-1999 he studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow to graduate in 2000. Between 2002 and 2004 he operated in Silesia creating huge spatial forms from industrial waste. He presently lives and works in Krakow.

Tomaszuk’s area of operation are broadly understood artistic activities. His works oscillate between sculpture, installations, architectural and sculptural forms and design. He is not unfamiliar with spontaneous activities, experiments, and comic books. His sculptures can be viewed in Katowice and Zawiercie; the artist participated in exhibitions in Krakow, Warsaw, Gdansk, and New York. His won two distinctions (in 2004 and 2005) at the SARP exhibition in Warsaw. He also took second prize at the SARP exhibition in Gdansk in 2004.

Julian Tomaszuk is an independent, constantly searching artist and his creative output evolves and changes along with the artist himself.
Boom

Unusual simplicity, but also references to the direct and universal languages are characteristics of the activities of Julian Tomaszuk. His Boom project was also maintained in such an atmosphere. Upon entering the cameral and quiet Plac Mariacki our eyes encounter a sizeable tower which looks as if it fell from St. Mary’s Church. The strength of this work was its influence in the context of the site’s localisation. Both the site as well as the installation have a direct and mutual influence and command the verification of their “routine” primary reception. For residents and tourists, Krakow’s Market Square and Plac Mariacki are symbols and any interference in their image constitutes a breach, a disturbance of the set order.

The film consisted of three parallel paths: music, visualisation and text. Seemingly, each of them ran its own course, however the messages are surprisingly convergent and complementary. Linguistic expression was accompanied by “meaningful silence” or non-closure. Everyone was provided with the possibility of performing a personal deconstruction of this work of art.
