Leto NormanBorn in 1980 in Krakow, Norman Leto is a self-taught artist. During his high-school education he gave up on the official education system; since then he has been gaining knowledge on new media and traditional painting technologies on his own. Norman Leto is an artist adroit in multiple techniques. He engages in such diverse media as painting, fragmentary psychological novel, lapidary drawings, but first and foremost he creates 3D visualisations of perambulations around virtual galleries. Leto’s films constitute a futurological vision of art which requires more than insufficient physical space. Visualisations of objects hanging in interiors of galleries are produced with the use of 3D graphics production algorithms, sculptures are constructed from the scratch with the use of vector graphics and the pictures are textures transferred from original canvas onto a digital object. A film produced in the result reminds closely a “hand-shot” TV documentary. Technical mastery aside, Leto’s works are also very personal, introvert tales of his own identity and its relation towards the others. Last year, Leto took fifth place on the Kompasie Młodej Sztuki [The Young Art Compass] commissioned by “Rzeczpospolita” daily (www.kompasmlodejsztuki.pl). One of his films features in the collection of the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle where it is a part of a permanent exhibition. Artist’s most important individual exhibitions are: Buttes Monteaux (2007), Galeria Nova, Krakow; Negatywne skutki nadmiernej wolności w wieku lat 26 (2007), Galeria Okna Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw; Jestem ciepły i spokojny nie muszę się już dłużej ukrywać (2007), Klub Folia Concept, Krakow. Leto also took part in such collective exhibitions as: Le coeur est un chasseur solitaire (2009), Lille; Establishment (jako źródło cierpień) (2008), Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw; Perfect Summer, New media (2008), Vertexlist Gallery, New York; Jeune Création Européene – Young European Art Biennale (2007), Paris. www.normanleto.com |
RakietaJulian Tomaszuk’s work presented at the ArtBoom Festival was a metaphoric sign of threats coming from the outside which contrasts with the serenity and the nature of the site. The object had the form of a 1:1 model of a rocket missile of the symptomatic name of Patriot, a part of the MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system made in the USA. It was a symbolic reference to the foreign policy of the United States of America and its claim-driven attitude to the world, but it also constituted a general condemnation of powership, imperialism, and any violence. ![]() ![]() Pictures: Weronika Szmuc |
