He was nominated to the Hugo Boss Prize (2008). Signer’s works, defined as “actions sculptures” encompass arrangement, realisation, and recording of “experiments” and events whose effects have characteristics of an “aesthetic event”. Abiding by precisely prepared and documented procedures, the artist causes and then records explosions, collisions, or projections of items in space. In a humorous way, Signer presents the reversal of the cause and result concept and of the traditional, scientific experiment and discovery method, engaging in his own interpretation of scientific logics as an artistic challenge. www.romansigner.ch |
Installation![]() The work of Roman Signer appeared on the Market Square at the junction of ul. Szczepańska and Szewska. The Swiss artist talks about his work, prepared for ArtBoom Festival: after a trip by canoe on the Vistula river I stopped for a while in Krakow to drink a cup of coffee. The idea for my production ensued by coincidence. ![]() Project curator: Beata Nowacka-Kardzis Pictures: Weronika Szmuc |
