WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE

Massmix

The group was established in 2006. It has been conducting its colourful activity in Poland (e.g. in Warsaw, Łódź, Gdynia, Płock) and abroad (Berlin, Amsterdam, Lille). Massmix’s graphic forms consisting of characteristic modules and colours make up recognisable – and always improvised – compositions. The character of the works is open and it may be seen as a method or jam, spontaneous meetings inviting the audience to interaction from the very beginning. The group members call this characteristic way of project implementation ‘a pot structure’.’

Massmix is based on a bank of graphic samples, filled in by all members of the group. The open collection is a joint good, everyone has the right to use its contents as part of group’s actions. Elements used for different projects are created on the basis of this collective store. Depending on the project scale, the elements include stickers or template modules cut out of adhesive wrap. The Massmix group creates its improvised compositions out of these elements, which is like making something out of building blocks. Sometimes cohesive and balanced and at times awkward and gauche, but always unpredictable and surprising.

Vlepvnet, operating since 2003 (for over a year as Fundacja Vlepvnet), is one of the most important Polish organisations dealing with urban art. It provides information, in addition to documenting, supporting and creating a platform for discussion on broadly-defined activities in the public space. It takes note of ephemeral phenomena, appreciates artistic detail and penetrates urban peripheries. At the same time, it acknowledges distinct destructive gestures of protest, crude beauty and the joy of post-vandalism.

Galeria v9 was created after the [v]iuro gallery, run by the Foundation in Warsaw’s district of Praga, closed down. [v]iuro was the first stationary gallery in Poland dedicated to street art. The gallery showcased over 20 exhibitions, hundreds of film screenings, as well as numerous lectures and debates. Galeria v9 is being created in a new location and in a changing place and importance of street art in modern creative output.
First Krakow Street Art Auction

Since the first auction held in the Bonhams auction house in early 2008, street art has become a fixture of the art market.

It is no longer the province of a small group of aficionados – artists who create street art and are often also its recipients. It is no longer associated with art directed at “young” audiences. Works by street artists, fetching elevated prices, have become the centre of attention of art collectors, and numerous street art auctions are held across the globe.

Krakow Street Art Auction had been distinct in its form from previous events. The pre-auction exhibition was displayed in the public sphere. The works on offer had not been “torn out” of their natural setting, as happens in other places. A participant of the auction needed to reach the selected works and get involved in the purchase with his or her entire body.
To participate in the auction, register by sending your application to: aukcja@artboomfestival.pl

Subject to an entry fee of PLN 10.

A catalogue listing the works on offer is available from the festival’s website.

The auction was managed by Galeria v9, in association with Fundacja vlevnet.
