The collection of the National Museum in Krakow at the Ministry of Culture

The National Museum in Krakow presents its outstanding collection of contemporary art in Warsaw, in the seat of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The exhibition entitled Polish Contemporary Art from the Collection of the National Museum in Krakow will be open until June 2012. It includes works by such artists as: Rafał Bujnowski, Marcin Maciejowski and Janek Simon – artists whose works were on display during previous editions of the ArtBoom Festival.

After a large exhibition of contemporary art from the National Museum in Wrocław, the Potocki Palace now features several dozen works by the most prominent Polish artists of the 20th and 21st century. This time round, they are on loan from Krakow’s National Museum. The corridors of the Ministry are now decorated with over 30 items created by Tadeusz Kantor, Jerzy Nowosielski, Ewa Kuryluk, Alina Szapocznikow and others. The youngest generation of artists is also present at Potocki Palace, as represented by Rafał Bujnowski, Marcin Maciejowski, Roman Dziadkiewicz and Janek Simon.
The Ministry’s spatial arrangement plan seeks to make the most outstanding works of art from Polish museums available to the public, and thus to win new people over for art. The exhibition is also testament to the uniqueness of Krakow’s collection, which has been created from day one in close collaboration with contemporary artists, who have donated their own works and have been actively involved in the day-to-day running of the museum.

It is worth remembering that Rafał Bujnowski took part in the first edition of the ArtBoom Festival with his Zemsta kobiety w centrum miasta (A woman’s revenge in the city centre). A multimedia show based on Witkacy’s play entitled Tropical Madness, created by Janek Simon, accompanied the second edition, whereas Marcin Maciejowski was a guest of this year’s edition of the festival and designed special T-shirts which can be bought from Allegro.
