Chopin in the City in the Golden Formats Finale
Chopin in the City - a series of art events held in Krakow as part of the celebrations of the Year of Chopin - is among the five events short-listed for the finale of the Złote Formaty (Golden Formats) competition. It will compete against projects submitted by Gdańsk, Lublin, Łódź and the Marshal's Office of the Warmia-Masuria Region. Winners of this year's edition will be announced during the City and Region Promotion Festival (September 20th-21st).
It is worth remembering that the Chopin in the City project made Krakow part of the celebrations of the Year of Chopin in an unconventional way. All the activities took place within the public space, and particular elements of the project drew on unusual ideas and modern technologies. As part of the project, six copies of an 1847 Pleyel piano were installed across the city, and the Czerwieński embankment became home to large reproductions of paintings by Jerzy Duda-Gracz, inspired by Chopin's music. In Plac Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego a satellite ball - Chopin SAT - was erected, while ul. Szewska accommodated the Przyst@nek; the Museum of Japanese Art and Technology - Origami; and the Planty - the Fallen Piano installation (all the multimedia installations were created by Aleksander Janicki). The Chopin in the City project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. More on www.chopinwmiescie.pl.
The Golden Formats competition was organised by the Ströer Group to highlight efficient promotional activities in Polish cities and regions. In the four previous editions of the competition, 240 local governments presented over 750 projects. This year, the projects will competein five categories: the Festival Grand Prix for all promotional activities within the last two years, as well as the best event, promotional publication, advertising campaign and public relations/public relations on-line campaign. 157 projects submitted by 67 local governments from across Poland will compete for the main award in each of the categories - a nationwide outdoor advertising campaign and special prizes.
